Texans add potential new starting center following draft

Another former New England Patriots player is headed to the Houston Texans ahead of the 2025 season.

According to the Texans’ transaction wire, Houston has claimed Patriots center Jake Andrews off waivers following his release on Tuesday. A former fourth-round pick from Troy, Andrews started two seasons on the offensive line under Texans offensive line coach and run game coordinator Cole Popovich.

Andrews, 25, is coming off a torn meniscus last season. He’s still under his rookie contract, meaning he’ll be with the Texans through 2026 should he make the active roster following training camp.

This should be considered a depth piece while a potential dark horse to start. The Texans have two options in Jarrett Patterson and Juice Scruggs, both of whom were drafted by Nick Caserio, who should be the favorites to start.

He’s a former All-Sun Belt Conference selection, has played in 16 career games with one start in two seasons with the Patriots.

The Texans added nine picks in the latest 2025 NFL Draft.
